Martin Simich
Co-Founder, CEO and VP; UK and Europe
Martin was educated at Marist Brothers Newman College and Edith Cowan University, Western Australia, graduating in 1990 with a Degree in Commerce. He subsequently completed a Masters in Risk Management at Monash University, Melbourne.
He went on to establish Australian Event Protection in 1996, a commercial security company focusing on the provision of security, covering a range of services from critical infrastructure to large scale events and personal protection for VIP clients and celebrities.
In 2000, Martin co-founded Unity Resources Group, with the company initially focusing on providing security Risk Management services throughout South East Asia and the Middle East. He continued to inject his pioneering spirit into the company, diversifying the business across new geographies and service lines.
Identifying a need for international standards of medical care to support projects in East Africa, Martin set up Unity Medical in 2006, providing life lines to those operating and living in remote areas and Unity are now regarded as market leaders in this field of expertise, used by high profile NGOs, governments and commercial clients. The success of the provision of remote area medical services in Africa has led to Unity opening its first clinics in Iraq in 2011.
Turning his attention to the aviation industry, in 2007 Martin identified a highly specific requirement for specialist aviation services for governments in high threat environments and Unity Aviation was formed. Offering a niche service to clients through specially modified aircraft, Unity Aviation now operates a fleet of aircraft, servicing leading Western government and commercial clients across Middle East Africa.
Recognising a gap in Maritime Security for servicing client’s needs, in 2011 Martin drew on Unity’s capability, gaining a clear market advantage to offer unique Maritime Security solutions to clients transiting through high-threat areas.
Martin has been a supporter in the development of the international charity The World Youth Education Trust, which works to rehabilitate and educate former child soldiers. He introduced the Trust to the Duke of Edinburgh Award Fellowship and has personally supported their missions and programmes in the UK and Australia. The charity opened its first counseling centres for former child soldiers in the Otuke region of Northern Uganda, a boarding school for 1000 secondary school students in Northern Tanzania as well as continuing to educate Masaai warrior tribes in Northern Tanzania.
Martin was a member of the Australian Army Reserves, Western Australian University Regiment for over 7 years, and has had a lifelong affiliation with the Australian Surf Life Saving Association, captaining the North Bondi Surf Club over past years.
